Project: 3D Portfolio
Status: Planning
Project Type: Interactive 3D Web Portfolio
Development Log: #001
01 — Project Overview
I am starting my first major project as part of my transition from graphic design into game development and interactive 3D.
The project is an interactive 3D portfolio that will showcase selected work from my previous years as a graphic designer, including my existing 3D projects.
Rather than creating a traditional portfolio website with a collection of images and thumbnails, I want to experiment with presenting my work inside a 3D environment.
The goal is to create something that combines my existing graphic-design experience with the technical skills I am developing in 3D, programming, web development, and game development.
This project will also become a learning experiment where I can document the entire development process from the first planning stage to the final result.
02 — Why Am I Building This?
I have worked in graphic design for many years, and I already have a collection of completed design and 3D projects.
Instead of allowing those projects to remain only as old portfolio pieces, I want to revisit them and present them in a completely different way.
At the same time, I am beginning my transition toward game development.
This project gives me an opportunity to connect both areas.
My graphic-design experience provides the creative foundation, while the 3D portfolio allows me to explore the technical side of interactive experiences.
I want the project itself to demonstrate not only what I can design, but also how I approach building a digital experience.
03 — What Will the Portfolio Contain?
The portfolio will contain selected work from my previous creative projects.
Possible categories include:
- Graphic design
- Branding
- Digital artwork
- Illustration
- 3D projects
- Visual experiments
- Selected professional projects
I do not want to simply place everything into the portfolio.
The goal is to carefully select projects that represent different aspects of my experience and show how my skills have developed over time.
04 — The 3D Concept
The final presentation will use a 3D environment rather than a conventional portfolio grid.
The exact environment has not been finalized yet.
During the planning stage, I will explore different possibilities such as a digital studio, creative workspace, gallery, exhibition space, or another environment that fits the technical and visual direction of the project.
The environment itself should feel connected to the type of work being displayed.
My goal is to create a visual experience that feels technical, creative, and slightly futuristic without becoming unnecessarily complicated.
05 — Technical Direction
The project will be developed as a web-based experience.
I already have experience with WordPress, HTML, CSS, Blender, and other creative software, and I am now expanding my knowledge toward interactive 3D and game development.
I will evaluate the appropriate technologies during the planning stage rather than deciding immediately.
Possible technologies include:
- Blender for 3D asset creation
- Three.js for interactive web 3D
- Godot for experimentation and comparison
- HTML/CSS/JavaScript
- WordPress for the main website and documentation
- Git/GitHub for version control
The final technology stack will depend on the requirements of the project, performance, browser compatibility, and how much control I need over the 3D experience.
06 — Documentation Philosophy
One of the most important parts of this project is documentation.
I don’t want to document only the final result.
I want to document the entire process.
That means recording:
- Project planning
- Design decisions
- References
- 3D assets
- Asset properties
- Polygon counts
- Materials
- Textures
- File formats
- Scene structure
- Lighting
- Camera setup
- Interaction
- Programming
- Optimization
- Performance testing
- Problems encountered
- Solutions
- Experiments
- Final results
For example, each major 3D asset can eventually have its own technical information.
Asset ID: ENV-DESK-001
Category: Environment Prop
Software: Blender
Geometry: TBD
Materials: TBD
Textures: TBD
Export Format: GLB
Status: Planning
The exact values will be recorded once the assets are created.
07 — Asset Management
I also want to treat the project more like a development project rather than simply a design project.
Assets will be organized and documented throughout development.
The project will contain separate categories for:
- Environment assets
- Props
- Artwork
- Materials
- Textures
- 3D source files
- Exported assets
- Web files
- Documentation
This should make the project easier to maintain and will also help me learn better development and asset-management practices.
08 — My Main Goals
This project has several goals.
Creative Goal
Create an interesting and visually strong way of presenting my previous design and 3D work.
Technical Goal
Improve my understanding of interactive 3D, web development, optimization, asset management, and programming.
Learning Goal
Use the project as a practical learning environment rather than relying only on tutorials.
Portfolio Goal
Create a finished project that demonstrates both my existing graphic-design experience and my developing technical skills.
Documentation Goal
Create a complete record of the development process that other people can follow.
09 — Project Scope
I want to keep the first project manageable.
The objective is not to create a huge virtual world.
The environment, interaction, and technical features should exist because they improve the portfolio experience.
I will prioritize:
Quality over quantity.
I would rather have a small, well-designed and optimized 3D environment containing carefully selected projects than an enormous scene that becomes difficult to maintain.
10 — Development Philosophy
This project is also an experiment in how I learn.
I will document mistakes instead of hiding them.
If something doesn’t work, I want to record:
Problem → Investigation → Experiment → Solution → Result
This will allow me to look back later and understand how my skills developed.
It will also make the project documentation more useful to anyone who is interested in following my transition from graphic design toward game development.
11 — Current Status
Phase: Planning
Version: 0.1
Status: Not yet in production
No final environment, asset list, or technology stack has been locked yet.
The next stage is to define the visual direction and determine what the 3D portfolio should actually look and feel like.
Only after that will I begin building the first assets.
12 — What Comes Next?
The next development log will focus on the visual concept and art direction.
I will explore:
- The overall atmosphere
- 3D environment concept
- Visual references
- Materials
- Lighting
- Color direction
- Typography
- Interface style
- How visitors will navigate the portfolio
- How my previous work will be displayed
This is the beginning of the project.
Project Status: PLANNING → NEXT: ART DIRECTION
